Miir Reimagines the Classics with New Standard

Seattle-based portable-drinkware maker MiiR has delved deeper into the coffee brewing world with a new line of products called New Standard.

Following a Kickstarter campaign that raised more than $113,000 in pre-orders, the set of products includes an all-metal Chemex-style multi-cup manual pourover brewer and server called the New Standard Carafe, and an optionally accompanying digital coffee scale.

Additional products in the New Standard line include a gooseneck kettle and steaming pitchers, while a moka pot and French press are on the way to consumers.

Made from insulated stainless steel with a removable conical filter-holder and pour spout on top, the New Standard Carafe system has been developed over the past three years. According to Miir, the system is designed to offer increased durability and heat retention compared to glass brewers of a similar shape.

With the brewing cone and its press-fit stopper removed, the New Standard’s opening is also threaded for compatibility with Miir’s wide-mouth twist lids.

“It is very transferable from surfaces, and not hot to the touch, so you can make coffee with it on your kitchen counter and take it to your desk,” Miir Vice President of Global Sales Heather Swerk told Daily Coffee News. “If you want to take your Hydration 20-ounce wide-mouth bottle lid, put it on, take that handle and take it to go, you can have that option. The two biggest things, though, are insulation and durability.”

After launching at the recent SCA Expo in Portland, Oregon, the New Standard Carafe sells for $79.95 for matte black, or $99.95 for polished stainless steel.

The digital coffee scale is Miir’s first electronic device. It is encased entirely in post-consumer recycled plastic with a non-slip recycled silicone mat on the weighing pan. The scale is powered by a USB-C rechargeable battery.

The scale is currently for sale for $59.95.

A New Standard French press is currently available to Miir’s wholesale partners and is slated to launch for direct sales next month in matte black for $99.95 and polished steel for $119.95. Also next month, Miir’s wholesale partners will begin to receive the New Standard moka pot, which will be sold direct to consumers in September of this year for $59.95.

The New Standard moka pot and French press each stay true to traditional forms, while the Miir versions offer stainless steel construction finished with handles and knobs made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic. The moka pot features a slightly larger-than-average brew basket.

“[The New Standard moka pot] was designed in conjunction with Hector [Castillo Carvajal] from Don Carvajal Café out of the Bronx,” Swerk told DCN at the Expo. “He loved his grandma making that espresso in the Dominican Republic. He’s been our compass on that product, to keep it very true to how it’s been done for hundreds of years.”

Founded in 2010 by Bryan Papé, Miir has carved a niche in the wholesale custom branded merchandising market by offering sturdy and stylish drinkware. The Seattle-based company remains independently owned and operated and carries multiple progressive third-party sustainability certifications while maintaining charitable donations.

In 2019 the company revealed its first coffee brewing product with the ultra-portable Pourigami pourover kit. While the New Standard line expands Miir’s brewing options, the brand plans to also move into apparel.

Unadorned or customized shirts, hats, hoodies and more with a variety of print and embroidery options will be made by Miir out of its “Miracle Blend” fabric, composed of 80% organic cotton and 20% recycled polyester. Miir-made clothes returned to Miir by customers will be upcycled and repurposed.

“We’ll take it back and end up using it in different purposes, [such as] shredding it and putting it into pet beds,” said Swerk. “The idea is to make it a fully circular program. We love to work with our brand partners, and we get a lot of requests from those partners to have some vendor consolidation, a one stop shop, get your hard goods and your soft goods [from us].”

Where To Eat In Kala Ghoda: 10 Best Cafes And

Kala Ghoda is one of the most popular localities in South Mumbai. It is so named after an iconic black stone statue of a horse that was built by Sir Albert Sassoon – although it was later moved to the Byculla Zoo. This statute depicted King Edward VII as mounted on the horse. In 2017, a new (riderless) statue, called “The Spirit of Kala Ghoda,” was erected in its place. The area is known for the annual Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, which takes place annually in February. But the neighbourhood remains an enticing hub for lovers of food, art and shopping all year round. Since it is close to other famous spots like the CSMVS museum, Horniman Circle, Asiatic Library and Colaba, you can easily head here for a culinary treat before or after sightseeing.

That’s why a cleanse program can be a powerful tool to rejuvenate your body and skin from the inside out. WhoMadeMyCotton Says Transparency Inevitable but

The next generation of consumers will expect transparency in their textile purchases and the global industry will get there, eventually.

Increased use of QR codes on garments will drive some of the changes as fashion brands get on board with tracing and sharing information on fiber content, country of origin, and recycling instructions.

However, the industry isn’t quite there yet. According to a recent report by #WhoMadeMyCotton, issued by Cotton Diaries, founded by Marzia Lanfranchi, in collaboration with Simply Suzette founder Ani Wells and denim design consultant Anne Oudard, the size of the textile industry is the biggest stumbling block toward transparency. It can’t help but be fragmented, and that fragmentation is standing in the way, the study reports.

For cotton, the lack of a standard tracking system from country to country is the first roadblock.  Farms vary in size, from just a few hundred up to tens of thousands of acres. Any bale of cotton can contain product from multiple sources. In any country, let alone one like China which harvested 5.98 million metric tons of cotton last year as one of the world’s biggest producers, the yield is unwieldy to measure accurately. Getting China to march in step with India and the U.S., coming in at 5.33 million metric tons and 3.8 million metric tons respectively, would be no mean feat.

As one of the study’s interviewees put it, “when everyone works with their own systems, the systems don’t work together.”

The lack of transparency is a boon for producers who’ve gotten away with trying to hide behind it. India’s 2020 organic cotton fraud is one example, as are China’s continued violations of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA), according to the report. Increased transparency would put a stop to infractions like these.

The WhoMadeMyCotton study called for the harmonizing of tracing technologies, saying it is a critical next step but warns it will take years. A key factor might be networks of smaller systems with organizations like Cotton-Connect, Better Cotton and Cotton Made in Africa (CMiA), Seed2Shirt, or any federation of organic cotton producers that launch standards for accurate tracking, often using blockchains to ensure the integrity of the information.

Demand for certifiable organic cotton right now far outstrips production. It’s only about 1 percent of global yield, but it will grow, as more in the industry turn to digitization to provide data and accountability to improve the industry as a whole.

Companies like Ecom, which bills itself as a soft commodity services group serving the coffee, cotton and cocoa industries, have implemented a traceability system based on blockchain technology for its cotton supply chain. It in turn developed a system in collaboration with the Swiss company Product DNA called the Respect Code, with the purpose of tracing the journey of each cotton bale. Clients can now access all relevant documents related to their cotton purchases.

Other tracing initiatives underway include Swiss company Haelixa, which developed a DNA market to trace Egyptian cotton used in premium shirts as part of the UNECE initiative called the Sustainability Pledge. Supima has partnered with TextileGenesis to create a blockchain platform for authenticating American-grown Pima cotton that connects the entire supply chain and uses Fibercoin technology to create digital tokens for each kilogram of Supima product. The Sourcery connects brands, manufacturers and growers committed to advancing commercial and environmental excellence.

Digital tracking methods are the wave of the future, although the cotton industry must counter slow-to-change established practices. Cotton merchants are the one layer that hasn’t changed, according to the report. These dealers, little known by denim professionals, are the businesses that buy cotton around the globe, primarily from ginners but also from farmers, and sell it to spinners. They manage the financial risk associated with buying and selling at different prices and different times, sometimes hedging in the process. They are essentially supply chain managers.

Despite their critical importance, denim professionals surveyed for the report don’t know who they are. Some 44.8 percent surveyed said they only know the cotton traders “sometimes,”  37.9 percent said they “never” knew who they were, and 17.2 percent said they “always” knew who they were.

Those relationships are destined to change. Merchants interviewed for the survey had all been contacted by brands looking at ways to set up traceable cotton sourcing methods. This opens the door for brands and cotton traders to build partnerships to pursue sustainability goals.

Orgain Hydrolyzed Collagen Powder

Collagen is a crucial protein in the human body that provides elasticity and strength to our skin, muscles, bones, and tendons. However, as we age, our body’s natural collagen production decreases, which can lead to various health issues, including joint pain and weak tendons. This is where collagen supplements, like Orgain Hydrolyzed Collagen Powder, come in handy. This supplement provides a high dose of collagen peptides that are easily absorbed by the body, promoting muscle recovery, joint mobility, and tendon repair. The powder is flavorless and mixes easily in water or your favorite beverage, making it a convenient addition to your daily routine. By incorporating Orgain Hydrolyzed Collagen Powder into your diet, you can help your body maintain optimal collagen levels and support your overall health and wellness goals.

Nature’s Nutrition Multi Collagen Complex

If you’re an athlete or lead an active lifestyle, you know how crucial it is to keep your joints and tendons healthy. Packed with five types of collagen, this complex promotes skin, hair, and nail health while also supporting joint and tendon function. 25 Best TikTok Recipes That Are Actually Worth

TikTok has earned its spot as the platform du jour for many reasons. While I enjoy watching product reviews, learning about the newest fashion trends, and even exploring new scientific discoveries via the dedicated STEM page—I dedicate the majority of my scrolling time to TikTok cooking videos. After countless hours of tapping through videos to find the perfect dinner or quick lunch ideas—I would say I have a pretty good grasp on some of the best TikTok recipes that exist on the internet.

Finding recipe inspo on TikTok has become one of my go-to ways to switch up my cooking habits. I live for beautifully shot videos of aesthetically pleasing food, and thanks to the creativity of these social media chefs, almost anyone can recreate these viral dishes. Many recipes can be made in an air-fryer, with minimal ingredients, or even in one jar! (Yes, really.)

TikTok Chefs to Look Out For

While there are thousands of chefs whose TikTok recipes have made them famous, there are several who have expanded their culinary skills beyond social media.

Yumna Jawad (@feelgoodfoodie) coined the famous Feta Pasta recipe back in 2021 and has since gained 1.9 million followers on the platform, continuing to develop simple, original recipes.

Jeremey Sheck (@sheckeats) is another up-and-coming chef to look out for, who went viral for his re-creation of Gigi Hadid’s spicy rigatoni with vodka sauce. The recent Cornell University grad has over 2.3 million TikTok followers and has been featured in several publications, including the Washington Post and People.

Hajar Larbah (@moribryan) draws much of her culinary inspiration from her Moroccan and Libyan nationalities. Larbah studied nutrition at UC Berkeley and recently released an Ecookbook for her 4.6 million followers to enjoy.

The Best TikTok Recipes

We know that scrolling through social media in search of the perfect recipe can be daunting. From breakfast to dessert, we’ve thrown together a list of the best TikTok recipes for every meal.

Burrata Toast

Why We Love It: Here at Camille Styles, we love burrata on just about everything. Thankfully, the viral burrata toast recipe is versatile enough to fit all our cravings. You can experiment with numerous tasty toppings. Finish off your picture-perfect toast with roasted tomatoes, or try fresh fruit like sweet, juicy grilled peaches. Either way, you’ll be making the most of the summer’s best picks.

Hero Ingredient: The burrata makes the toast.

Stuffed Bagel Bites

Why We Love It: Dunkin’ Donuts isn’t just famous across the nation for its coffee (or Ben Affleck’s loyalty)—these stuffed bagel bites took the internet by storm. They’re the perfect grab-and-go breakfast that can be prepped days in advance for a delicious snack fit for any busy schedule.

Hero Ingredient: Everything bagel seasoning gives these bites a true bagel feel.

Baked Oats

Why We Love It: If you prefer your breakfast sweet, baked oats might just become your new obsession. They’re simple to make and contain both healthy ingredients like bananas and oats and natural sweeteners like honey.

Hero Ingredient: Add some chocolate chips or a sprinkle of cinnamon for a dessert-like morning meal.

Yogurt Toast

Why We Love It: We’re here for all the hype around yogurt toast. It’s perfectly balanced with tart and sweet elements that come together for a crunchy, creamy bite. (It’s like French toast, only better.) The yogurt can be enjoyed on its own or sweetened with ingredients like honey and cinnamon.

Hero Ingredient: Warm spices like cinnamon and brown sugar can easily elevate the flavor of your Greek yogurt.

Pesto Eggs

Why We Love It: Eggs are arguably one of the best protein-packed breakfast foods. But they can become bland if not cooked and seasoned with care. Pesto is a tasty (and simple!) way to infuse your eggs with flavor by simply whisking them into a basil-based sauce. Make your own pesto or pick it up from the grocery store and enjoy!

Hero Ingredient: An elite sauce like pesto is only made all the better with the addition of sun-dried tomatoes. Don’t you agree?

Hailey Bieber Smoothie

Why We Love It: When it comes to the best TikTok recipes, the one that’s taken the wellness world—and the entire Camille Styles team—by storm is Hailey Bieber’s Erehwon Strawberry Glaze smoothie. It’s made with skin-boosting nutrients like NeoCell hyaluronic acid, along with organic strawberries and Erehwon sea moss. We’re endlessly grateful for the TikTok community for re-creating the smoothie. (And spoiler alert: it doesn’t cost $17.)

Hero Ingredient: Out of all of the ingredients in this smoothie (and there are quite a few), sea moss is the most unique.

Salads and Sides

Jennifer Aniston Cobb Salad

Why We Love It: Jennifer Aniston revealed that she ate this cobb salad on the set of Friends for ten years straight—and we can totally understand why. It’s both creamy and crunchy with a savory dressing made from Greek yogurt, lemon juice, and Dijon mustard. If that doesn’t scream delicious (and filling, and energizing), I’m not sure what does.

Hero Ingredient: Chickpeas are one of the easiest ways to fill your plant-based lunch with a healthy dose of protein. We’re obsessed.

Sushi Bake

Why We Love It: Contrary to popular belief, it’s possible to enjoy a sushi night without paying $20 per roll. This sushi bake takes under 30 minutes and contains all of the restaurant-quality sushi staple ingredients. While it calls for salmon, you could easily sub for crab or ahi tuna.

Hero Ingredient: A homemade spicy mayo is essential—not only for this sushi bake, but really any recipe that could use a little creaminess and heat.

Cowboy Caviar

Why We Love It: This dip—filled with protein-packed beans, crunchy bell peppers, and creamy avocado—is tossed in a bit of taco seasoning for bold flavor. It’s highly addicting when enjoyed with fresh, crunchy tortilla chips or used as a topping for taco night. We wouldn’t blame you if you polish off the whole bowl.

Hero Ingredient: A bit of lime juice adds the perfect acidic pop.

Accordion Cucumber Salad

Why We Love It: Don’t be intimidated by the looks of this salad—it’s easy to make these spicy accordion-style cucumbers happen with just a few slices of a knife. Serve over a bed of your favorite rice and top with crushed red pepper for a bit of heat.

Hero Ingredient: This salad wouldn’t be the same without the spicy garlic oil.

Pastas and Mains

Gigi Hadid’s Spicy Vodka Pasta

Why We Love It: Gigi Hadid’s spicy vodka pasta recipe truly broke the internet in 2020. As soon as it was posted, it was simultaneously re-created by hundreds of aspiring chefs across the globe. Vodka sauce has since become one of the most sought-after Italian dishes at high-end restaurants like Carbone, going for around $35 a plate.

Hero Ingredient: Crushed red pepper adds a kick to this creamy pasta. Don’t be shy about sprinkling it on with a heavy hand.

Feta Pasta

Why We Love It: Yamna Jawad’s feta pasta is undeniably one of the best TikTok recipes due to both its ease and addictive quality. (I could eat bowl after bowl of the stuff.) Cooked pasta, along with a block of feta, a drizzle of olive oil, and cherry tomatoes are tossed together to create a delicious and simple dish. It’s a one-pot meal, reimagined.

Hero Ingredient: Usually, I don’t envision feta in a cheesy pasta recipe—but like many, this dish pleasantly surprised me.

Homemade Gnocchi

Why We Love It: Picture this. It’s Saturday night, you’ve poured a glass of wine, and you have a spark of inspiration to make dinner from scratch. If pasta-making sounds like your type of challenge, then this delicious homemade gnocchi is exactly what you’re looking for.

Hero Ingredient: Toss this potato pasta in your favorite sauce and enjoy! It’s as easy as that.

Tortellini Pasta Salad

Why We Love It: I’ve always been a big fan of Caesar salad, but recently I’ve found that they’re just not filling enough when it comes to being a strong side salad. If you also love the taste of a good Caesar dressing, throwing in some carbs and protein to make a hearty pasta salad is a great go-to summer dish.

Hero Ingredient: A homemade or good-quality store-bought Caesar dressing is key. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that it makes this pasta salad.

Garlic Bread Grilled Cheese

Why We Love It: The new and improved partner for your homemade tomato soup recipe is here! Garlic bread grilled cheese takes this basic sandwich to the next level. Simply spread a mixture of garlic, butter, and parsley onto your bread and cook in a pan or on a panini press.

Hero Ingredient: Garlic can—and should—be the hero of almost every meal.

Birria Tacos

Why We Love It: With its origins in Puerto Vallarta, Birria has become a popular dish enjoyed in both Texas and throughout the South. This delicious Mexican dish is made with tender, slow-cooked meat, usually beef or goat, marinated in a rich and flavorful sauce made from a blend of dried chilies, spices, and herbs.

Hero Ingredient: The best cut of meat for the most tender Birria is a chuck roast. If you don’t have it, save your Birria for another night when you do. That’s right—it’s essential.

Bang Bang Shrimp

Why We Love It: Bang bang shrimp has become a popular appetizer thanks to its tangy and spicy sauce. The shrimp are typically coated and fried in a light batter and tossed in a creamy and zesty sauce made with mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, and sriracha.

Hero Ingredient: Sweet chili sauce is the perfect balance between sweet and spicy.

Marry Me Chicken

Why We Love It: Marry Me Chicken is a flavorful and creamy dish that became one of the best TikTok recipes because of its rich taste and romantic name. Chicken gets cooked in a creamy tomato sauce infused with garlic, herbs, and a bit of balsamic vinegar. The sauce is thick and luscious, making it a perfect accompaniment to pasta or mashed potatoes for a satisfying, indulgent meal.

Hero Ingredient: I typically include sun-dried tomatoes in my sauce for an added sweet flavor. If you’re wondering, yes—I can’t get enough of them. And this dish is made all the better with the addition.

Salmon Bites

Why We Love It: If you have an air fryer at home and a busy schedule, then these salmon bites are for you. The best part about this trending recipe is its versatility. Salmon can be coated in anything from hot honey to sweet sesame sauce.

Hero Ingredient: I like to pair my salmon bites with sticky rice, edamame, and avocado.

Burrito Bowls

Why We Love It: Burrito bowls are a popular and delicious dish that gained popularity in the States largely in part to the ubiquity of everyone’s favorite fast-casual spot, Chipotle. The combination of starches, protein, and veggies in a burrito bowl creates a satisfying and customizable meal option for those seeking a hearty and flavorful experience.

Hero Ingredient: A squeeze of lime in your bowl is always a good idea.

Garlic Butter Steak Bites

Why We Love It: Not feeling the frill? Steak bites are a perfect option. The garlic-infused butter enhances the natural flavors of the steak, creating a rich bite that’s best paired with lighter vegetables to balance out the indulgence.

Hero Ingredient: Good quality salted butter makes all the difference.

S’mores Cookies

Why We Love It: If there’s one thing TikTok is good at (and there are many), it’s motivating me to get in the kitchen and bake. With hundreds of unique desserts, it’s hard to narrow down the best recipes. But these s’mores cookies earn their place for their simplistic yet distinct taste and texture. All of the classic’s three essentials—graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate—are included.

Hero Ingredient: These aren’t your run-of-the-mill, made-over-the-fire s’mores. Certainly not with a healthy ball of cookie placed on top before baking. It makes the hybrid cookie the masterpiece it is.

Strawberry Yogurt Chocolate Bites

Why We Love It: When I’m feeling dessert but want something lighter, these strawberry yogurt chocolate bites are my go-to. Simply dice strawberries, fold into Greek yogurt, and freeze before dipping them in melted chocolate.

Hero Ingredient: Be sure to choose chocolate morsels for the easiest melting process.

Red Velvet Cheesecake Brownies

Why We Love It: Three of the best desserts in one bite? It’s impossible to say no. These brownies deliver a stunning presentation and combine to make a delicious blend of creamy and sweet flavors.

Hero Ingredient: It’s hard to choose, but cheesecake is what makes these brownies so unbelievably rich.

French Toast Bites

Why We Love It: The best TikTok recipes are the ones that take the dishes we know and love and add a fresh twist. These French toast bites use the same recipe we all grew up with, but their small shape makes them perfect for a breakfast platter or a quick morning bite.

Hero Ingredient: I love to serve my French toast with fresh fruit like strawberries or blackberries. It’s all about balance!

Couple marry at The Conservatory in Monroe

Looking for a unique wedding venue, Lenore Boberg and Nathaniel “Nate” Turner were married May 14, 2023, at The Conservatory in downtown Monroe.

Surrounded by bountiful flora and hanging baskets of cascading pothos and ivy, Lenore Boberg and Nathaniel “Nate” Turner said, “I do.”

The couple wanted a one-of-a-kind venue to go with their “Till Death Do Us Part” theme. Guests were encouraged to wear black.

Finding the perfect place was easy for Lenore Turner (nee Boberg). She knew she wanted something small and considered an elopement ceremony but did not want to get married at the courthouse.

It was late February and Turner was considering places in downtown Monroe when she thought of The Conservatory at 21 W. First St.

“I love the store. I think it’s beautiful in there,” Lenore Turner said.

Flanked by house plants available for rent is Stuart Eastman, owner of The Conservatory at 21 W. First St. in downtown Monroe.

A phone call to Stuart Eastman, owner of the store specializing in house plants and home accessories, sealed the deal.

The West First Street shop’s wide selection of plants offers a tropical atmosphere and it was exactly what Turner had envisioned. Instead of renting plants to fill a room, they rented the house plant boutique.

Grumpy Gary’s Bar & Grill, Dania Beach

It’s hard to be grumpy on the beach — unless your name is Grumpy Gary’s Bar & Grill, which closed in late April after five years on the Hollywood Broadwalk. But owner Gary McGeddy refused to stay grumpy for long, and is now planning to breeze into the former home of Historic Dockers later this June. The new menu is still being finalized, but will no doubt include the flagship location’s hamburgers, fries, steaks and seafood, along with craft beer, cocktails and wine. 318 N Federal Highway, Dania Beach; GrumpyGarysDania.com

Mission BBQ, Royal Palm Beach

This pit joint —- the second in Palm Beach County — is coming this year to the Boulevard Shoppes at Cypress Key plaza, adding to the flurry of new restaurants heading to the once-sleepy Southern Boulevard drag in Royal Palm Beach. The Maryland-born chain is a hub of pork and patriotism where, at lunchtime each day, TV screens burst to life with the American flag and customers rise to sing The Star-Spangled Banner. Its menu is built around entrees of Texas-style brisket, pulled pork, sausage, turkey, salmon, pulled chicken “bay-b-back” ribs and spare ribs, along with sides such as coleslaw, green beans, baked beans and mac-n-cheese. 11929 Southern Blvd., Royal Palm Beach; Mission-BBQ.com

Like the original, which is tucked inside The Cove Shopping Center in Deerfield Beach, this new iteration “will have a similar menu but with nighttime tapas and beer and wine,” says Emilio Dominguez, who along with wife Jimena co-owns the upcoming Fort Lauderdale restaurant with operating partners Ida and Ray Passaro. “Our partners are Italians, so there will be a couple of toasts and bruschetta and imported ingredients — to kind of elevate the concept a little bit.” He describes the culinary direction of both eateries as “eclectic international brunch … with comfort foods fusion.” The decor and vibe will be the same, a hodgepodge of thrift-store finds to reflect the diverse mix of clientele. “It’s a welcome space for all, from 14 to 84 years old, every walk of life, every color, every religion, every sexual orientation,” Dominguez adds. “It’s the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.” The Dominguezes also own Cleopatra Royal Coffee inside the Art Outfitters gallery in Fort Lauderdale. 911 NE 20th Ave., Fort Lauderdale; themodernrose.com

Vote for Pedro, Boca Raton

This Mexican-American cantina from restaurateur Anthony Monticello is the answer to the never-asked question: What happens if I mash up “Napoleon Dynamite” and tacos? Expected to open this fall in The Shoppes at Village Pointe, it will replace the former The D in Delicious chocolate shop. If the name sounds familiar, Monticello’s Where Hospitality originally brought his taco stand from Manhattan to Delray Beach Market in 2021 but left a year later amid rising rents and a rebranding of the food hall. The new shop will serve tacos de birria, along with Mexican street foods in a sports bar-style setting. 6018 SW 18th St., Suite C9, Boca Raton; VoteforPedroNYC.com

Playa Bowls, Jupiter

Started as a Jersey Shore pop-up food stand back in 2014, Playa Bowls already has eight eateries in Broward and Palm Beach counties, as well as more than 150 locations nationwide. After opening a Stuart location in May, franchisees Jenna and Michael Zorn say they next expect to open another in Jupiter’s Concourse Village this summer. The brand’s concept, started by New Jersey natives and avid surfers Rob Giuliani (no relation to Rudy) and Abby Taylor, uses mostly plant-based ingredients, especially acai and fruit. They’re also known for being serious about sustainability with 50% reclaimed building materials, LED lighting, partnerships with recycling efforts, and recycled/biodegradable bowls, spoons and lids. 75 E. Berry Fresh Cafe, Palm Beach Gardens

Mitch and Michael Timoteo are the father-and-son duo behind this farm-to-table breakfast-lunch cafe that will open its fourth location this summer in the Oakbrook Square Shopping Center in Palm Beach Gardens. The menu is loaded with whimsical scratch dishes including Captain Crunch challah French toast, Irish eggs benedict and Nashville hot chicken hash for breakfast, as well as beef birria and chicken pesto sandwiches for lunch. For brunch, there are shrimp-and-crabcake goat cheese omelets and baked quiche. The new location will join three Florida outposts, in Jupiter, Port St. Lucie and Stuart. 11658 U.S. Highway 1, Suite 18, Palm Beach Gardens; BerryFresh.Cafe

Papamigos, Delray Beach

Somehow-still-trendy birria is served in not one but five configurations (ramen, nachos, mac ‘n’ cheese, tacos and burritos) at this so-called “Mexi-Crasian” (Mexican-Asian fusion) eatery from Lauren Grosso and Brian Faeth, which is expected to open another location this summer in the South Delray Shopping Center. Papamigos, which replaces Las Catrinas Mexican and Tequila Bar, slings Mexican-style street food such as chicken tortilla soup, taco salad and elote, but also sushi tacos, tuna nachos and oysters on the half-shell. This is Papamigos’ third venture, joining a Coconut Creek storefront and a food truck in Pompano Beach. 3035 S. Federal Highway, Delray Beach; Papamigos.com

Livia Bar & Grill, Fort Lauderdale

This Southern Italian restaurant expects to open in Fort Lauderdale’s exploding Flagler Village nabe this fall, in time for the NFL’s season kickoff. The 150-seat Livia, which is registered to Daniel Mendoza, will serve Neapolitan-style pies, linguine and clams, chicken parmesan, beer and craft cocktails, and feature plenty of flat-screen TVs for sports games. 500 N. Andrews Ave., Unit 106, Fort Lauderdale

Ya Mas! Taverna, West Palm Beach

More than a year after hospitality honcho and “Big Brother” star Memphis Garrett (No Man’s Land, Point Break) brought his first Greek restaurant to tony Las Olas Boulevard, Ya Mas! will expand into its first sister taverna on West Palm Beach’s bustling Clematis Street restaurant row. Expected to open in late 2023, the new Ya Mas! will dish an identical menu of modern and classic fare, such as dolmades and muhammara, bechamel short rib, and loukaniko with melted leek and pepperoncini. 216 Clematis St., West Palm Beach; YaMasTaverna.com

Topgolf, Pompano Beach

This three-level golfing attraction touting a restaurant-bar, rooftop terrace, patio and 102 climate-controlled hitting bays will anchor a new 223-acre project being built near the former Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park. Topgolf, slated to open in late 2023, hasn’t unveiled its Pompano Beach menu yet, but its Miami Gardens location serves American pub fare: burgers and buttermilk fried-chicken sandwiches, chicken wings and nachos, meat lover’s flatbreads and injectable, cinnamon-dusted doughnut holes for dessert. Intersection of Powerline Boulevard and Race Track Road; TopGolf.com

Gregory’s, West Palm Beach

Miami-chic Greek eats, south of downtown West Palm Beach? That would be Gregory’s, co-owner Max Ricci and entrepreneur Michael Katzenberg’s restaurant opening sometime in early summer in the city’s so-called SoSo (south of Southern) neighborhood on South Dixie Highway. An offshoot of Ricci’s acclaimed Mandolin Aegean Bistro in Miami’s Design District, Gregory’s will serve coastal Greek and Mediterranean, although a full menu is not yet available. 5700 S. Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach

Maggie McFly’s Local Craft Eatery & Bar, Boca Raton

Touchdown probably won’t be until October for this concept flying into SoFlo out of Connecticut. Celebrating its 30th anniversary with this first foray into Florida, Maggie MacFly’s is doing a total down-to-the-studs makeover of a space inside Town Center at Boca Raton mall (where Rex Baron once stood). The Maggie McFly’s menu has more than 180 items including burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, street foods (tacos, gyros, sliders), pastas, chicken dishes, salads, seafood, steaks and ribs, house specialties (such as Shepherd’s Pie, Pot Roast, Cajun Jambalaya), appetizers, snacks and desserts. “We will do seasonal specials that will be much more focused on Florida and Boca, more fresh fish,” says founder and owner Ray Harper, a snowbird in Palm Beach Gardens. The company also touts the use of locally sourced products, both in the kitchen and the bar. 6000 Glades Road, Boca Raton; maggiemcflys.com.

Rock N Roll Sushi, Palm Beach County

Founded in Mobile, Ala., in 2010, Rock N Roll Sushi has big plans for South Florida. First up will be Palm Beach County sometime in 2023, with a group of food-and-beverage investors scouting potential locations as well as other franchisees who are interested in spreading the fast-casual eatery with rock music-themed sushi and hibachi dishes through the rest of SoFlo. This new ownership group — called Rock N Development — recently announced plans to roll out (get it?) 35 Rock N Roll Sushi locations in central and southwest Florida. “Boca is a good area,” says John “JD” Weissfisch, one of the partners with Rock N Development. “[Palm Beach] Gardens going north, even Wellington and Boynton Beach. I think those areas are great for the brand … which caters to the families. It’s Americanized sushi for people who are intimidated by sushi or never tried it. I think in those areas, we would have a great customer base.” Though home is now just outside of Orlando, Weissfisch’s Argentine family lived for years in Miami, where he was an auto industry executive before becoming a multi-unit restaurant owner and operator of Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Island Wing Co. Multiple locations; rocknrollsushi.com

Fiolina Pasta House, Boca Raton

Michelin-starred and James Beard Award-winning chef Fabio Trabocchi is coming to Boca Raton. Not only is he opening Fiolina at the highly-anticipated Restaurant Row this fall, but Trabocchi is also moving his family to Boca Raton, where he and his wife first met. Fiolina will occupy the venue’s largest space at 7,000 square feet and, in addition to the main dining room, will feature a lounge, pasta room, show kitchen (with counter dining), private dining room, outdoor terrace and an open Mozzarella Bar Kitchen (with charcuterie station and wine room). “While memorable food and exceptional service will be the core draw, Fiolina Pasta House will be much, much more,” Trabocchi says. “It will be the place where you will always find a sense of community, and everyday life celebrations happen.” Trabocchi already has Fiola in Coral Gables, and his Washington, D.C.,-based restaurant group includes Del Mar and Sfoglina Pasta House. 5355 Town Center Road, Boca Raton; fabiotrabocchi.com

The Soulful Steep, Pompano Beach

Billed as a new teahouse, salt cave and emporium, this groovy nook designed to help channel one’s “inner hippie” plans to shuffle into Pompano Beach’s arty Old Town district this spring. The menu at this cozy shop, registered to owners Christina and John Abresch, features a bevy of teas blended by local herbalists, along with vegan and gluten-free baked goods and light bites. The 40-seat shop will also be accented by a therapeutic salt cave and the sale of art and furniture made by locals. 122 N. Flagler Ave., Pompano Beach; TheSoulfulSteep.com

The Baked Bear, Dania Beach

The Baked Bear plans to open its second South Florida location sometime this winter at Dania Pointe, the sprawling al fresco mall and entertainment enclave in Dania Beach. As with the other location in Sawgrass Mills, this new novelty dessert shop will feature 13 baked-from-scratch-daily cookies and 13 premium craft ice cream flavors. You will also be able to mix and match two cookie flavors and choose an ice cream flavor for the filling, thus creating your own customized ice cream sandwich. Additionally, The Baked Bear will serve pints, sundaes and Bear Bowls (a warm cookie and brownie served with a scoop of ice cream). There are two more shops planned for Miami-Dade County. 139 S. Compass Way, Dania Beach; thebakedbear.com and daniapointe.com

Chip City, Pompano Beach and beyond

The latest New York-born restaurant to bet its chips on South Florida is this growing cookie monster, which is scheduled to open five new storefronts in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties by fall 2023. The sweet shack founded by childhood friends Peter Phillips and Teddy Gailas in 2017 has 17 spots in New York and New Jersey, but a $10 million investment by Shake Shack founder Danny Meyer spurred the South Florida move. Their chunky five-and-a-half-ounce cookie menu includes dairy-free chocolate chip made with oat milk and coconut oil, chocolate peanut butter, blueberry cheesecake, and seasonal outliers such as hot honey cornbread and cannoli (stuffed with toasted pistachios, cannoli shells and cream). A Miami Beach outpost is expected to debut this spring, followed by spots in Pompano Beach, Delray Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami’s MIMO District. 2083 N. Powerline Road, Pompano Beach, and 302A E. Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach; ChipCityCookies.com
